While growing up in Mechanicsville, Debbie lived in Dogwood Knoll with her parents, Andy and June Bezdan, sisters Becky and Andrea, brother Jimmy and foster brother Richard. She attended Hanover County Public Schools where she graduated from Lee-Davis High School in 1979. While attending college, she began working as an engineering technician for VDOT where her father worked as a materials engineer. After majoring in Small Business Management, Debbie worked in the systems engineering department of Dominion Power. She is currently a licensed Realtor with Courthouse Properties, Inc. and a part-time Database Manager for Richmond Hill, Inc.
Mrs. Winans is serving her first term as the Mechanicsville District Representative on the Hanover County Board of Supervisors and is the current Chairman.
Debbie married Gary L. Winans in September, 2010. They have five children, Sherri, Amanda, Dawn, Chris and Sara, and two grandchildren, Tyler and Noah. Gary and Debbie enjoy spending their spare time caring for their many pets including horses, goats, chickens, dogs, cats and rabbits, and taking care of the farms. They reside on Windsor Drive in Mechanicsville and also own a small farm in Varina and another farm in West Virginia.
Debbie has always cared about helping in her community. Her interest in community service grew from her father’s deep commitment to serving the church, the Masonic lodge and helping neighbors. Her interest in politics was sparked by her first experience as a campaign volunteer in1979.
Through her work in the PTA, the Hanover County Historical Society, the Village of Mechanicsville, the Parsons’ Cause Foundation and many other organizations, she has proven her commitment to civic responsibility. Her willingness to help whenever and wherever needed has provided many opportunities for her to serve and learn.
As her first term draws to a close, Debbie is seeking your support to continue to offer her experience, time and talent to
the citizens of the Mechanicsville District as your representative on the Hanover County Board of Supervisors.
